Mom of the year! That’s what I told myself as I put the final touches on my daughter’s animal-themed birthday cake. Julie turned eight this year and HAD to have a jungle-themed birthday party after learning about it in school. So I went to work baking a beautiful cake topped with little fondant monkeys and Twizzler snakes as a surprise treat for our budding explorers.
The time came for the party and things were going great. Zero injuries occurred in the safari race game and only one balloon animal had popped so far. “Cake Time!” I cried to the crowd of kids. As I revealed my masterpiece their faces changed and the crowd grew uncomfortable. Turns out Miles is allergic to peanuts and Emma is allergic to dairy. Joey and Olivia are now gluten free. The rest were sympathetic. Welp, so much for that.
